Tech Trends
Project Overview
This project was completed in the IBM Data Analyst Professional course on Coursera (certificate). One dataset was a large survey from Stack Overflow, which was analyzed to determine trends in technology, the other was from Kaggle on jobs available in the tech field including salary, location, and skills requirements. A dashboard was created in IBM Cognos and put into a PowerPoint presentation report.
Project Goals
Descriptive analysis of top languages, tools and databases was completed, along with mapping the trends of these same in the years to come. Demographics analysis was also performed and graphical representations completed in Cognos.
Tools Used
Cognos, Excel, Python, Jupyter Notebook, Anaconda, PowerPoint
Data Cleaning/Preparation
- Inspection of initial data,
- Handling missing and blank values,
- Removing outliers, and
- Data cleaning and normalization
Demographic Data
Combining the information from both datasets, we analyzed the current demography of the tech field, locations with the most jobs, and what their salaries, locations, and skills requirements were. We further analyzed the job satisfaction of current tech workers as well as what skills they will be focusing on in 2025.
Skills Data
We determined the most popular programming languages, tools and databases amongst tech workers, and cross referenced with the skills requirements of available tech jobs. We further identified the top trends in languages, tools and databases for investigation and additional education for tech workers to remain competitive in the job market and stakeholders to ensure they are employing the most skilled analysts.
